Raiders Designate Rookie S Obi Melifonwu To Return From IR

The Oakland Raiders have designated rookie S Obi Melifonwu as one of their two players to return from injured reserve on Tuesday, according to Michael Gehlken.

This officially opens a three-week window of time for the Raiders to add him to their active roster.

The Raiders placed Melifonwu on injured reserve coming out of the preseason while he was working his way back from knee surgery.

Melifonwu, 23, was selected by the Raiders with the No. 56 overall pick. According to OverTheCap.com, Melifonwu will receive a four-year contract worth $4,509,376, which includes a signing bonus of $1,419,544.

During his four-year college career at Connecticut,  Melifonwu recorded 349 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, eight interceptions, 16 pass defenses, two fumble recoveries, and two forced fumble.
