Raiders Sign QB Garrett Gilbert To Practice Squad

The Oakland Raiders announced Tuesday that they’ve signed QB Garrett Gilbert to their practice squad.

The Raiders’ practice squad now consists of:

  1. WR K.J. Brent
  2. CB Kenneth Durden
  3. WR Jaydon Mickens
  4. G Oni Omoile
  5. OT Takoby Cofield (Injured)
  6. DE Jimmy Bean
  7. TE Cooper Helfet
  8. G Ian Silberman
  9. TE Ryan O’Malley
  10. DT Demetrius Cherry
  11. QB Garrett Gilbert

The Raiders have to consider adding a quarterback following the news that the team is not optimistic about QB Matt McGloin in their playoff game.

Oakland listed McGloin’s injury as a shoulder issue but he specifically has an injury is to his trapezius that’s acting like a pinched nerve, according to Rapoport.

This could lead to the Raiders turning to rookie QB Connor Cook next weekend.

Gilbert, 25, is a former sixth-round pick of the Rams. However, his time in St. Louis was short lived as he was waived at the start of the 2014 season before later signing to the Rams’ practice squad.

After a brief stint with the Patriots, Gilbert was later claimed by the Lions. Unfortunately, Gilbert was unable to make the Lions’ 53-man roster coming out of the preseason but spent the entire 2015 season on the Raiders’ practice squad.

The Raiders cut him loose last May.

Gilbert has yet to appear in an NFL game.
