Raiders Expected To Make A Run At Randall Cobb If Available

ESPN’s Bill Williamson reports that reports that there’s buzz around the league that the Raiders plan to make a serious run at Packers free agent WR Randall Cobb if he ends up being available.

However, Williamson admits that Green Bay is not expected to allow him reach the free agent market.

Rob Demovsky of ESPN previously reported that the Packers are expected to prioritize a new contract for Cobb that would keep him in Green Bay.

Doing so would require a very large commitment from the Packers, seeing as Cobb and his agent are well aware of the fact he’ll cash in big time if he’s able to meet with prospective teams.

The Raiders have an incredible amount of cap space to work with and could easily make Cobb an offer he can’t refuse.

Demovsky previously mentioned that Cobb is seeking a contract that would pay him an annual salary of $9 million, and other reports have said as much, so it really wouldn’t be surprising to see him end up with a similar deal to what Jordy Nelson received last year.

The window for teams to apply franchise tags opened today, but there has no indication that Green Bay is willing to go this route.

Cobb, 24, played out his four-year, $3,209,421 rookie contract and is clearly in position for a sizable raise this offseason.

In 2014, Cobb caught 91 passes for 1,287 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns. He also contributed as the team’s punt returner this year. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 wide receiver out of 110 qualifying players.

We have Cobb listed as the No. 11 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
