Raiders “Firmly Committed” To Starting Matt Schaub This Year

Jim Trotter of ESPN reports that Raiders HC Dennis Allen is “firmly committed” to starting veteran QB Matt Schaub this season, despite using a second-round pick on Fresno State QB Derek Carr.

  • Trotter adds that it would take something “catastrophic” for Carr to start this year.

Oakland acquired Schaub from the Texans in exchange for a sixth-round draft pick that they used on RB Alfred Blue.

Schaub later agreed to restructure contract with the Raiders and will now make $8 million for the 2014 season, but his deal doesn’t include any guaranteed money beyond that.

The Raiders have given every indication that Schaub is their guy for the entire season. However, the Raiders have one of, if not, the hardest schedules in the league, so we’ll have to see how he performs out of the gate.

Last year, Schaub appeared in 10 games and completed 61.2 percent of his passes for 2,310 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He also had a problem with throwing pick-sixes.

  1. I still think Schaub is a good QB. He had one bad year in year in his NFL career so far. Was really surprised that he only needed a 6th round pick to be traded. I do not think the Raiders have the recieiving corp to make him look good enough to start him all season though.
