Raiders Have Approached Darren McFadden About An Extension

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Oakland Raiders have “checked in” with RB Darren McFadden regarding a contract extension.

According to Rapoport, McFadden informed them that he prefers to wait until the offseason to discuss a new contract, as he is hoping to “return to his old self ” this season.

McFadden, 25, is hoping to command “big dollars” on the open market next season, which will largely hinge on his 2013 production. In 2010, he tallied 1157 yards rushing, 507 yards receiving and 10 total touchdowns for the Raiders. Since then, he has yet to go over 707 yards rushing and saw his yards-per-carry drop to a pedestrian 3.3 yards last year.

The Raiders are hoping to retool their blocking scheme to better fit McFadden’s skill set, but we’ll have to see if he is capable of putting up big numbers when it counts the most.

We have McFadden listed as the No. 29 best available player in our Top 50 – 20104 Free Agents list.
