Raiders Have Not Discussed Signing S George Iloka

Raiders DC Paul Guenther said that the team has not discussed the possibility of signing free agent S George Iloka and he is happy with the current safety group.

No, I was kind of surprised they let him go. George has been a really good, steady player for them for a long time and really developed through the system inside and out. I’ve been really kind of concentrating on getting ready for this ball game and really evaluating the guys we have at safety. I like our safety group. I mean, we have a lot of different abilities back there, guys who can cover, guys who can hit and play the middle of the field. So, I’m really focused on getting those guys better,” said Guenther, via Vic Tafur.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Raiders “plan to make a run” at signing Iloka. However, it appears that Guenther and the coaching staff are comfortable with their current players at the position. (NFLTR)

Iloka, 28, is a former fifth-round pick of the Bengals back in 2012. He was in the third year of his five-year, $30 million contract that includes $5 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $5.2 million for the 2018 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Iloka will free up $5.6 million of available cap space while creating $600,000 in dead money.

In 2017, Iloka appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and recorded 79 tackles, one interception and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 40 safety out of 76 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 50 Available 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
