Raiders Hire Tony Sparano As Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Oakland Raiders have hired former Jets offensive coordinator Tony Sparano as assistant head coach and offensive line coach.

It’s been documented how poorly the Jets offense was in 2012, but Sparano is better known for his work with offensive lines in years past. Sparano was likely brought in to help the Raiders make a switch to a power-running scheme after RB Darren McFadden took a step back in his development this season, which has been attributed their zone-blocking scheme.

Sparano’s ability to find ways to create running lanes for McFadden could ultimately decide his long-term future in the NFL.
