Raiders Interested In LB Erin Henderson, Have Checked On LB Jerrell Freeman

Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Raiders have “sniffed around” in regards to Colts free agent LB Jerrell Freeman, but seem closer to a deal with Jets free agent LB Erin Henderson.

  • According to Tafur, the Jets want to re-sign Henderson.

Freeman is reportedly visiting with the Bears and has interest from the Giants, Falcons and Colts, so market appears to be heating up.

As for Henderson, the Jets have expressed interest in signing him to an extension months ago. However, there hasn’t been a lot of buzz regarding a new deal since then.

Freeman, 29, wound up signing on with the Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Mary Hardin-Baylor back in 2008. He lasted just a year with the Titans before he waived at the start of the season.

It wasn’t until four years later that he got another NFL opportunity when the Colts signed him to a contract in 2012. He returned to the team on a restricted contract last year and is now one of the best available linebackers in this year’s free agent market.

Henderson, 29, originally signed on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent back in 2008. He spent six years in Minnesota before signing on with the Jets as an unrestricted free agent in April of last year.

In 2015, Henderson appeared in all 16 games for the Jets and recorded 44 tackles and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has Henderson down for playing 232 total snaps for the Jets to go along with a solid rating of 7.8 in run defense.
