Raiders LT Donald Penn “Dug In” On Stance To Hold Out For New Deal

Raiders LT Donald Penn tells Mike Silver of NFL Media that he’s “dug in” with his stance to hold out for a new contract that offers a better salary.

Penn reportedly asked the Raiders for a new contract last year and again during this year’s Scouting Combine, but it appears as though Oakland has resisted renegotiating his current deal.

Silver also spoke with Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, who wants Penn to report to the team and then they’ll discuss a new deal. McKenzie added that “he’s a Raider” they consider Penn “family.”

Penn, 34, originally signed on with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Utah State back in 2006. After a few months in Minnesota, Penn signed on with the Buccaneers during his rookie season and spent eight years in Tampa Bay before he was released back in 2014.

The Raiders signed to a contract soon after and brought him back on a two-year, $11.9 million contract that included $5 million guaranteed last year. Penn stands to make a base salary of $5.8 million for the 2017 season.

In 2016, Penn appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 12 offensive tackle out of 77 qualifying players.
