Raiders May Part Ways With Matt Leinart & Darrius Heyward-Bey Next Season

Steve Corkran of the Contra Costa Times believes that neither Raiders QB Matt Leinart or WR Darrius Heyward-Bey will be back with the team next season.

Leinart is a free agent and is unlikely to be re-signed given that the Raiders appear to be willing to see what they have in Terrelle Pryor next season.

Having arrived to Oakland after a brief stint with the Texans, Leinarts spent the season as Carson Palmer’s back up. He made two appearances all season, completing 16 out of 33 passes for 115 yards and an interception and has then been surpassed by Pryor on the depth chart.

In the case of Heyward-Bey, he has yet to live up to the expectations of being the 7th overall back in 2009. Heyward-Bey is scheduled scheduled to a $7.721 million base salary next season, and given the Raiders financial issues, there stands a reasonable change that they could part with him and use that money elsewhere. If he’s willing to rework his deal, that could prevent him from hitting the open market.
