Raiders Met With RB Doug Martin, Expected To Make “Strong Push” To Sign Him

Ian Rapoport reports that Raiders HC Jon Gruden recently arranged for a face-to-face meeting with free agent RB Doug Martin and came away impressed with him as a person.

Rapoport adds that the Raiders are expected to make a “strong push” to sign Martin in free agency.

It’s worth mentioning that signing Martin to a contract won’t impact a team’s 2019 compensatory picks, given that he was released this offseason.

Martin, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Buccaneers back in 2012. He was third in the first year of his five-year, $35.75 million contract that includes $15 million guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $6.75 million for the 2017 season when the Buccaneers released him a few weeks ago.

In 2017, Martin appeared in 11 games for the Buccaneers and rushed for 406 yards on 138 carries (2.9 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 84 yards receiving and three touchdowns.

We have him featured in our Top 100  – 2018 NFL Free Agents list.
