Raiders Officially Promote Todd Downing To Offensive Coordinator

The Oakland Raiders have officially promoted QBs coach Todd Downing to offensive coordinator on Thursday, according to his agent Ken Sarnoff.

The Raiders parted ways with offensive coordinator a few days ago and reports mentioned that Downing was the guy to watch for the job.

Albert Breer mentioned previously that the Raiders actually blocked Downing from interviewing for offensive coordinator jobs elsewhere in past and ultimately decided that they didn’t wanna lose him, so this really doesn’t come as a big surprise.

Downing, 36, began his NFL coaching career with the Vikings back in 2003 as their football systems analyst. He later joined the Rams for a few years before he was eventually hired by the Lions as their offensive quality control coach. From there, Downing worked his way up to QBs coach before leaving for the Bills.

It wasn’t until 2015 that the Raiders hired him as the QBs coach.

In 2016, the Raiders’ offense ranked No. 11 in points scored, No. 19 in total yards, No. 6 in rushing yards and No. 13 in passing yards.
