Raiders Place WR Brandon LaFell On IR, Designate DT Justin Ellis To Return

Raiders HC Jon Gruden announced that they’ve placed WR Brandon LaFell on injured reserve with an Achilles injury and designated DT Justin Ellis to return from injured reserve.

We’re going to miss him. He’s going to be a hard guy to replace,” Gruden said of LaFell, per Michael Gehlken.

LaFell, 32, is a former third-round pick of the Panthers back in 2010. He spent four seasons in Carolina before joining the Patriots as a free agent back in 2014.

The Bengals signed LaFell in 2016 and brought him to a two-year, $9 million contract that included $3.3 million guaranteed the following year. Unfortunately, Cincinnati released him coming out of the preseason and he later caught on with the Raiders.

In 2018, LaFell has appeared in six games and caught 12 passes for 135 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Ellis, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Raiders back in 2014. He played out the final year of his rookie contract and was set to be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career before agreeing to a three-year extension worth over $15 million this offseason.

In 2018, Ellis has appeared in one game, but has yet to record a statistic.
