Raiders Placing DE Mario Edwards On I.R. With “Significant” Neck Injury

Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Raiders are placing rookie DE Mario Edwards on season-ending injured reserve Wednesday.

Raiders HC Jack Del Rio said that Edwards has a “significant” neck injury that may require surgery.

Edwards, 21, was taken in the second-round of this year’s NFL draft. He signed a four-year, $6.017 million contract that includes $4.161 million guaranteed.

He’ll make a base salary of $435,000 this season to go along with another $708,508 in 2016.

This season, Edwards appeared in 14 games and recorded 41 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two pass defenses for the Raiders. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 defensive end in a 3-4 defense out of 57 qualifying players.
