Raiders Possibly Shopping RB Darren McFadden During The Offseason?

Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports writes that the Raiders are in a “brutal situation” regarding RBĀ Darren McFadden.

McFadden missed Sunday’s game against Baltimore because of an ankle sprain, but his 2012 season isn’t anywhere near the expectations that many had for him back in August. A lot of his struggles can be attributed to the team’sĀ zone-blocking scheme, which they changed a few weeks ago against the Chiefs.Ā McFadden subsequently ran forĀ 114 yards in that game.

Cole adds that unless the Raiders start to adjust their offensive to better suitĀ McFadden, “they would be better off trading him in the offseason.”

McFadden is under contract through the 2013 season, so the team could always choose to wait and address his contract at a later point in time. IfĀ McFadden puts together a decent string of games to end the season and is able to carry over that performance into next season, the Raiders could always elect to franchise him.

Ultimately, this will come down to the team’s willing to adjust their offense and whether or not they feel thatĀ McFadden is the type of player to build an offense around. If not, they could shop him around the league to see what they could get in return.
