Raiders Prefer To Use Franchise Tag On Tyvon Branch

Steve Corkran of the Oakland Tribune writes that the Oakland Raiders have “zero interest” in using their RB franchise tag on RB Michael Bush because of their “commitment to a normal salary structure.”

Instead, Corkran believes that the team would most likely use the tag to S Tyvon Branch from testing the open market. Corkran even mentions that the team may look to draft someone like Robert Turbin out of Utah State to replace him. (Here’s a quick look at Turbin from our draft expert Chance Bond)

New head coach Dennis Allen has already mentioned that Darren McFadden could be used as the team’s featured back next season and Taiwan Jones could be in line for some more work next season after seeing very little playing time in his rookie season.

Bush should be able to find interest on the open market but should be used as a complimentary back. One speculative option could be the Philadelphia Eagles who have been without a short-yardage running back for some time.
