Raiders Prioritizing Long-Term Extension For QB Derek Carr After This Season

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, citing a league source, reports that the Raiders are “prioritizing” a contract extension for QB Derek Carr after this season.

Schefter’s source said he expects Carr’s next contract “to be Luck-ish,” which means he could come close to Luck’s five-year, $123 million contract he signed last summer.

Carr is currently in the MVP discussion and has the Raiders in good shape to make a postseason run. He’s also one of the best young quarterbacks in the game, so it makes sense for the Raiders to be aggressive in taking care of him long-term.

Carr, 25, is a former second-round pick of the Raiders back in 2014. He’s currently in the third year of his four-year, $5,371,802 contract and stands to make a base salary of $733,746 for the 2016 season.

In 2016, Carr has appeared in eight games and thrown for 2,321 yards while completing 66.3 percent of his passes to go along with 17 touchdowns and three interceptions.
