Raiders QB Controversy

Jason Campbell‘s tenure with the Oakland seemed short-lived after he was benched by Raiders head coach Tom Cable after the first half of the teams first game. Bruce Gradkowski has taken over as the teams starter but was knocked out of week 5 games because of shoulder injury.

Campbell came in and led the Raiders to a 35 – 27 victory over the division rival San Diego Chargers. This was a big win for Campbell and the Raiders both since the Chargers had won their last thirteen games against Oakland.

Gradkowski hasn’t been all that productive since taking over for Campbell. He has a quarterback rating of 71.1 which is good enough for 28th overall and has thrown for 709 yards to go along with four touchdowns and four interceptions. The Raiders are 1-3 with Gradkowski under center so he hasn’t exactly cemented himself as the teams starter.

Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle agreed that Gradkowski isn’t guarnteed to start upon his return to game action. “When Gradkowski is back from his shoulder injury, the Raiders will have a good ol’ quarterback controversy,” writes Tafur.

The Raiders traded draft picks for Campbell so Al Davis may want to see Campbell on the field again before he decides to cut his losses on him.
