Raiders RB Latavius Murray To Test Free Agency, Could Still Re-Sign With OAK

Josina Anderson reports that the Raiders are expected to allow RB Latavius Murray to reach the open market in the coming weeks.

However, Anderson’s source did say that Murray could still re-sign with the team after gauging his options.

The door will remain open for a possible return after he tests his market,” Anderson’s source said of Murray.

According to Anderson, the Raiders are aware that the 2017 NFL Draft is a deep class for running backs.

Anderson also reports  that the Raiders’ big focus is on “taking care of (Derek) Carr and (Khalil) Mack.”

The Raiders have plenty of cap room to work with again in 2017 and could easily afford to give Murray a market-value contract if they want.

Murray said back in January that he would “love” to finish his career with the Raiders, so it will be interesting to see if the two sides can agree to a deal this offseason.

“I don’t think I ever want to be a guy who bounces around or things like that,” Murray said, via Jerry McDonald of the Mercury News. “I’d love to finish my career here. I think says a lot about any player who’s able to stay in one place. I’d love to finish what I started but I know how things could go.

Murray, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Raiders back in 2013. He played out the final year of his four-year, $2.266 million rookie contract and is now in line to be one of the best available running backs in next year’s free agent class.

In 2016, Murray has rushed for 788 yards on 195 carries (4 YPC) to go along with 12 rushing touchdowns and 33 receptions for 264 yards receiving. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 21 running back out of 61 qualifying players.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
