Raiders Re-Signing S Taylor Mays, Also Had Interest From Seahawks

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Oakland Raiders are re-signing S Taylor Mays to a contract after they sustained injuries at safety.

  • According to Schefter, Mays also considered signing with the Seahawks, who are without S Kam Chancellor and have his former HC Pete Carroll.

Earlier in the day, Schefter reports that the Raiders “fear” FS Nate Allen suffered a torn ACL during Week’1 loss to the Bengals.

On top of that, veteran S Charles Woodson is scheduled to have an MRI on his injured shoulder on Monday, so there is a great deal of concern regarding the team’s safety position.

Mays, 27, is a former second-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was later traded to the Bengals for an undisclosed draft pick just a year later, and spent four seasons with the franchise, while largely contributing to their special teams unit.

The Vikings elected to sign him to a one-year contract worth $745,000 back in March. However, his time was short lived, as Minnesota later released him a few months ago.

Mays resurfaced with the Raiders, but was unfortunately among their final roster cuts a few weeks ago.

In 2014, Mays appeared in all 16 games for the Bengals and recorded nine tackles, a sack, and a safety. Pro Football Focus has him down for playing just 61 snaps last year.
