Raiders Sign OLB Aldon Smith To A Two-Year, $11M Deal

Update:

The Oakland Raiders have officially announced the signing of OLB Aldon Smith on Monday.

  • Mike Garafolo reports that Smith receives a two-year contract with a base value of $11 million. However, the agreement can max out at $19.5 million based on sack and Pro Bowl incentives.
  • Garafolo adds that with Smith likely to be suspended for a portion of the 2016 season, it’s unlikely he’ll make this entire amount.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Raiders and OLB Aldon Smith have agreement in place on a new contract.

  • Schefter adds that Smith was spotted at team building today and the two parities are trying to finalize the deal.
  • According to Ian Rapoport, Smith receives a two-year contract from the Raiders.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie confirmed that they were considering bringing Smith back, but added that they were in rush to get a deal done. However, it appears as though they’ve changed their mind.

According to Schefter, Smith won’t be able to apply for reinstatement any sooner than 60 days before Nov. 17 of this year, so he could very well miss at least a portion of the year.

Smith, 26, is a former first-round pick of the 49ers back in 2010. He was cut loose by the 49ers shortly after a DUI incident last year, even though San Francisco picked up his fifth-year option.

Smith lataer signed a one-year deal with the Raiders that was worth up to $8 million, which was largely incentive-based, as he had a base value of just $1 million to go along with $5 million in active roster bonuses and another $2 million in sack-based incentives.

In 2015, Smith has recorded 28 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, and three pass defenses over the course of nine games. Pro Football Focus currently rates Smith as the No. 33 edge defender out of 110 qualifying players.
