Raiders Release Darrius Heyward Bey, Michael Huff & Dave Tollefson

The Oakland Raiders have announced that they have released WR Darrius Heyward Bey, S Michael Huff and DE Dave Tollefson.

The also announced the signing of DB Phillip Adams, who will receive a one-year contract.

ESPN’s John Clayton reports that the Raiders should now have $15.3 million in cap space available to them, but they will also be carrying $32.3 million of dead money this season.

This is reminiscent of what the Colts did last season when they cut a number of players to free up money for next season. They only difference is that Colts roster was much better last year than Oakland’s current group of players.

The Raiders have time to change this and a top three pick that they can use to grab an impact player in the draft. Juron Criner and Rod Streater figure to be in for plenty of playing time next season now that Heyward Bey won’t be back.
