Raiders Release G Mike Brisiel

The Oakland Raiders announced that they have released veteran G Mike Brisiel on Tuesday.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie recently mentioned that Brisiel was going to have to compete for a roster spot, but he ultimately wasn’t even given the opportunity.

Free agent acquisition Austin Howard is expected to take over at right guard with Menelik Watson handling the right tackles duties.

Brisiel, 31, appeared in 15 games for Oakland last season and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 43 guard in the league.

He still had three years remaining on his five-year, $20 million contract. The Raiders will free up $4 million in cash and $1.38 in cap space if they released him outright.
