Raiders Release LB Nick Roach & S Usama Young

The Oakland Raiders released veteran LB Nick Roach and S Usama Young on Friday with failed physical designations.

Roach has unfortunately been dealing with serious concussions symptoms in recent years and there was talk recently that he was unlikely to play at all this season.

Roach, 29, had two years remaining on his four-year, $13 million contract that included $5 million guaranteed. He would have made base salaries of $2.8 million and $2.95 million over the remainder of the contract.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Roach will free up $2,128,750 in cap space while creating $1,592,500 in dead money.

Young, 29, has one year remaining on his two-year, $2.35 million contract and would have made a base salary of 1 million for the upcoming season.

The Raiders will save another $1,100,000 by cutting him and take on no dead money.
