Update:
Scott Bair reports that the Raiders didn’t release RB Roy Helu on Friday, and instead placed him on their injured reserve list.
However, Bair says they’re “virtually certain” to release Helu at some point with an injury settlement.

The Oakland Raiders have released veteran RB Roy Helu on Friday, according to Scott Bair.

This move comes just a few days after Oakland placed Helu on active/PUP list.
There had been talk for some time now that Helu could be on the roster bubble, but it appears the Raiders felt now was the right time to move on.
Helu, 27, is a former fourth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2011. He spent four years in Washington before signing a two-year, $4.1 million contract with the Raiders last year.
Helu was set to make a base salary of $1.9 million for the 2016 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Helu will free up $2 million in available cap space while creating $1 million in dead money.
In 2015, Helu appeared in nine games for the Raiders and ran for 39 yards on 17 carries (4.3 YPC) to go along with nine receptions for 75 yards receiving and one touchdown.
