Raiders Cut RB Trent Richardson

Bill Williamson of ESPN reports that the Raiders have begun the process of trimming their roster down to 75 players ahead of tomorrow’s deadline, and are releasing RB Trent Richardson.

Other players being waived or released by Oakland include:

  • WR Kenbrell Thompkins
  • QB Cody Fajardo

There was talk that Richardson’s odds of making 53-man roster were slim, so this shouldn’t come as a major surprise.

At this point in his career, it’s fair to wonder if he’ll even get another shot to play in a regular season game.

Richardson, 25, signed a two-year, $3.85 million contract that included $600,000 guaranteed with the Raiders back in March. He was set to make a base salary of $925,000 for the 2015 season.

Releasing Richardson will free up $1,275,000 in cap space, according to OverTheCap.com.

In 2014, he ran for 519 yards on 159 carries (3.3 YPC) to go along with 27 receptions for 229 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 29 running back out of 57 qualifying players.
