Ross Tucker reports that a source has informed him that Matt Schaub’s newly restructured contract with the Raiders will pay him $8 million fully guaranteed in 2014.
- However, Schaub’s 2015 salary of $5.5 million is non-guaranteed, according to Tucker.
The Raiders parted with a sixth-round pick in return for Schaub, who wound up reworking his contract after the trade was finalized.
Because Schaub took a pay cut of $3 million, the Raiders included incentives that will allow him to earn difference next year. Schaub’s 2015 salary also includes $3 million incentives as well.
Oakland was able to reduce Schaub’s 2014 cap figure from $14.5 million to $7.5 million in the process.
- ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported that the Raiders and Schaub had reached an agreement on a restructured contract.
- Schefter added that Schaub can still earn $15-$20 million over the next two seasons.
Schaub, 32, had three years remaining on his five-year, $66.15 million contract. The Raiders would have owed him a base salary of $10 million to go along with $1 million in per-game roster bonuses next season.
Last year, Schaub appeared in 10 games for the Texans last season and threw for 2,310 yards to go along with 10 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
