Sam Montgomery Lasts Just 4 Days With The Raiders

Update:

The Oakland Raiders released former Texans third-round pick DE Sam Montgomery on Saturday.

Montgomery was signed on Wednesday and later placed on the practice squad/IR list, but only lasted a total four days with the Raiders. This is hardly the type of the situation that will help him secure another opportunity next season.

Montgomery was waived by the Texans earlier this season after he and a few teammates were caught smoking pot in a hotel room the night before a game. That wasn’t the only issue created by Montgomery, as he showed up to training camp out of shape.

Even the LSU coaching staff had concerns about his work ethic, which caused him to drop to the third-round of the recent NFL draft, despite some early buzz that he could be a first-round pick.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Raiders have signed former Texans third-round pick DE Sam Montgomery.

Houston asked Montgomery to make the transition to outside linebacker, so joining the Raiders will allow him to get back to playing a familiar position. It really can’t hurt for Oakland to take a chance on a guy at this point given that their roster is limited in terms of ability.
