Raiders Sign QB Garrett Gilbert & K Giorgio Tavecchio To Futures Deals

The Oakland Raiders officially signed QB Garrett Gilbert and K Giorgio Tavecchio to future/reserve contracts.

Future/reserve contracts are essentially an opportunity for players compete for a roster spot in offseason workouts and training camp.

Gilbert, 24, is a former sixth round pick of the Rams. However, his time in St. Louis was short lived as he was waived at the start of the 2014 season before later signing to the Rams’ practice squad.

After that time, Gilbert was signed by the Patriots to a future/reserve contract and was later claimed by the Lions after New England decided to waive him.

Tavecchio, 25, originally signed on with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of California back in 2012. He was unable to make the team’s 53-man roster and was released at the start of the season.

He would later have brief stints with the Packers and Lions before being claimed off of waivers by the Raiders in August of last year.

This will be Tevacchio’s second stint with Oakland.
