ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Oakland Raiders are still interested in signing free agent RB Cedric Benson.
“Cedric Benson is still on the Raiders’ radar,” said Schefter, while appearing on yesterday’s NFL Live.
Schefter adds that a deal could still take some time, but the Raiders interest is apparently serious enough to assume that Benson will most likely be donning silver and black this season.
Williamson states that “there is likely a place for Benson with the Raiders,” but with all of Raiders’ issues relating to their salary cap and unsigned draft picks, “Oakland may have it do some maneuvering to sign Benson, and that could take time.”
With the durability problems that RB Darren McFadden has had in his few years with the team, it would probably be smart for the Raiders to sign another running back that has proven he can hanlde a sizable workload, whether it’s Benson or a different running back. At this point in the offseason, there are very limited options in terms of talent and ability on the open market. Taiwan Jones figures to see more action this year, but adding some extra depth still seems like the right move.
