Raiders Still Discussing A Contract Extension With LT Jared Veldheer

Alex Marvez of Fox Sports reports that the Raiders have discussed a long-term extension with soon-to-be free agent LT Jared Veldheer.

While this is a positive sign that Veldheer could be back in Oakland, he added that there wasn’t much happening right now. Veldheer mentioned that the franchise tag remains an option for the Raiders.

Veldheer, 26, is in the final year of his rookie contract and will likely be one of the most sought after left tackles on the open market. Veldheer returned from a partially torn triceps in Week 13, but seemed to struggle upon rejoining the team’s starting lineup.

The Raiders will have plenty of cap space to work this offseason, which means there is a good chance that they could get something done without needing to use their franchise tag. Based on the top contracts handed out to left tackles in the past few years, Veldheer stands to make close to $11 million annually and a deal could total $55 million with around $20 million guaranteed.

We have Veldheer currently listed as the No. 10 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.
