Raiders Still Plan To Play Next Two Seasons In Oakland, Even If They Agree To Move To Las Vegas

Raiders owner Mark Davis tells Paul Gutierrez of ESPN Saturday that he plans on his franchise playing the next two seasons at the Oakland Coliseum, even if they reach a stadium deal to relocate the team to Las Vegas.

“We want to bring a Super Bowl championship back to the Bay Area,” Davis told ESPN.

This comes just a day after the Nevada state legislature approved a tax plan to raise $750 million toward the Stadium project in Las Vegas.

Davis released the following statement after the news that the Nevada legislature had approved the tax plan:

“I would like to thank Governor Sandoval, the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee, and the members of the Nevada Legislature on this historic day,” Davis said. “All parties have worked extremely hard to develop and approve this tremendous stadium project that will serve as a proud new home for the entire Raider Nation.”

The bill still needs to be signed by Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval, but the expectation that he will do so on Monday.

A Las Vegas stadium figures to be a hot topic at the owners meeting next week. In order for the team to move, the Raiders would need the support of 24 out the 32 NFL owners.

There’s still a chance that talks with the city of Oakland could pick. However, Las Vegas is becoming much more of a viable option.
