Raiders To Announce One-Year Lease Extension In Oakland

Ian Rapoport report that the Raiders are expected to announce a new one-year extension of their current lease in Oakland.

The Raiders lease was set to expire after the season, but with no team headed to Los Angeles for the 2015 season, this was the overall expectation.

According to Rapoport, owner Mark Davis has worked hard to rebuild relationships with other owners after his father’s passing. Rapoport mentions that the Raiders are now closely aligned with league.

When Mark took over for the Raiders, one of the first things he took care of was to settle millions of dollars of debt left over from his father. Rapoport says that the total was in the “tens of millions.”

This is, of course, a band-aid stadium solution for the Raiders, as they’ll still need to figure out a long-term strategy that includes a new stadium at some point.

The Raiders, Rams and Chargers are all in lease-to-lease situations and have all been mentioned as teams that could relocate to Los Angeles at some point in the near future.

San Antonio has also come up as a potential option for the Raiders, but some don’t believe it’s a realistic option for them.

You can expect to hear more about the Raiders possibly relocating to Los Angeles in the coming months.
