Raiders To Meet With Tyvon Branch’s Agent Regarding “Uncertain Future”

According to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area, Tyvon Branch‘s future with Oakland Raiders remains “uncertain” and GM Reggie McKenzie is planning to meet with his agent at some point in the near future to discuss his situation.

Upon taking over as Raiders general manager, McKenzie wasted no time overhauling the roster, but Branch was one of the player’s he identified as a core player and later signed him a four-year, $26.6 million contract that included $17.6 million guaranteed.

Since then, Branch has dealt with injuries since signing the agreement and has been limited to appearing in just five games over the past two years.

Given his sizable contract and lack of production, Branch figures to be a clear candidate to take pay cut or be released in the coming months.

Branch, 28, still has another three years remaining on his contract, which includes base salaries of $5.5 million (2015), $6.5 million (2016), and $6.5 million (2017). As things stand right now, Branch as the highest cap figure on the team at $9.657 million.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing him would free up $2.986 million in available cap space while creating $6.671 million in dead money. Should the Raiders elect to make him a June 1st release, they would create $6.5 million in cap space and $3.157 million in dead money.

Last year, Branch appeared in three games and recorded 29 tackles, one sack and a pass defense for the Raiders’ defense.
