Raiders Sign WR Johnny Holton & LB James Cowser To PS, Cut WR ArDarius Stewart

The Oakland Raiders announced that they’ve re-signed WR Johnny Holton and LB James Cowser to their practice squad on Wednesday and released WR ArDarius Stewart from the unit.

Here’s the Raiders updated practice squad:

  1. TE Paul Butler
  2. S Dallin Leavitt
  3. FB Ryan Yurachek
  4. DB Rico Gafford
  5. DT Gabe Wright
  6. RB James Butler
  7. OT Jamar McGloster
  8. WR Saeed Blacknall
  9. WR Johnny Holton
  10. LB James Cowser

Holton, 27, wound up signing on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Cincinnati back in 2016. He managed to make the 53-man roster each of his first two years in Oakland, but was cut loose at the start of the 2018 season and later signed to their practice squad.

The Raiders promoted Holton to their active roster a few weeks ago only to cut him loose soon after.

In 2017, Holton appeared in all 16 games for the Raiders and caught four passes for six yards.

Stewart, 24, is a former third-round pick of Jets back in 2017. He was in the second year of his four-year, $3.25 million contract and set to make base salaries of $592,500 and $688,750 over the next two years of the agreement when the Jets waived him a few days ago.

The Jets actually had to a roster exemption for Stewart before they cut him loose after he completed his two-game suspension for violating the league’s PED policy and he later re-signed to their practice squad.

New York eventually released him with an injury settlement and he later signed on to the Raiders’ practice squad.

In 2017, Stewart appeared in 15 games for the Jets and caught just six passes for 82 yards receiving and no touchdowns. He also rushed for 27 yards and contributed 173 kick return yards on special teams.
