The Los Angeles Rams announced on Saturday that they have activated DT Aaron Donald from the exempt list and promoted CB Kevin Peterson to their active roster.
- The Rams waived also OL Aaron Neary in a corresponding roster move.
Donald, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $10.136 million and set to make a base salary of $1,802,250 for the 2017 season when the Rams picked up his fifth-year team option for the 2018 season.
This will run the Rams around $6.892 million for the 2018 season, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.
In 2016, Donald appeared in all 16 games for the Rams and recorded 47 tackles, eight sacks, two forced fumbles and five pass defenses.
Peterson, 23, wound up going undrafted out of Oklahoma State before signing a three-year, $1.62 million contract with the Bears. Unfortunately, the Bears elected to waive Peterson, as they trimmed their roster down to the 53-man limit.
The Rams signed him to their practice squad as an unrestricted free agent and later signed him to a futures deal. Los Angeles waived him as they worked down to the 53-man limit.
He has yet to appear in an NFL game.
During his four-year college career, Peterson recorded 143 tackles, five interceptions, 23 pass defenses and a fumble recovery over the course of 34 games.
