Rams CB Janoris Jenkins Confirms Contract Talks Have Been Tabled, Will Play Out Rookie Deal

Rams CB Janoris Jenkins confirmed that contract talks with the team have been tabled until after the year, and he plans to play out the remainder of his rookie agreement before exploring a potential extension.

“It’s over for the season,” Jenkins said, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com. “After football [season], I’d be glad to sign back with them but as far as the season, I just want to focus on football.

“I gave them up until bye week. They knew what was going on. I told them anything after the bye week, I ain’t listening, I don’t want to hear it. I want to focus on football. The bye week is gone, so I just want to play football.

Jenkins previously mentioned that the Rams’ offer to him wasn’t close to what he was looking for in his next contract and he’s prepared to “bet on myself.”

“I’m not talking about the contract,” Jenkins said, via Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I ended that last week, when they gave me those numbers. It was something I didn’t want to hear. I ended it just like that. I’ll play it out. I’m gonna bet on myself.”

Jenkins, 26, was taken in the second round of the 2012 draft and has one year remaining on his four-year, $4.99 million rookie contract that included $2.964 million guaranteed. He’ll make a base salary of just $660,000 for the 2015 season, so you can see that he’s in line for a substantial raise next year.

This season, Jenkins has appeared in five games and recorded 26 tackles, two interceptions and four pass defenses for the Rams. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 16 cornerback out of 107 qualifying players.
