Rams Change Their Mind, Will Not Hire Rob Ryan As DC

Chris Mortensen reports that the St Louis Rams have changed their mind regarding the decision to hire Rob Ryan as their defensive coordinator.

“It wasn’t a scheme fit,” said Rams head coach Jeff Fisher.

Mortensen adds that the decision came after meeting with Ryan again on Monday.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter tweets that the Rams and Ryan reached an agreement, but never officially signed a contract.

Just a few weeks ago, this seemed like a done deal and, in fact, it was reported as such. To be honest, it did seem a little strange that they were planning on hiring someone who’s primary experience is with a 3-4 defense. The Rams are well suited for the 4-3 system that they’ve been running, so it will be interesting to see where they turn in regards to their defensive coordinator position.

The Saints and Eagles are both looking for a 3-4 defensive coordinator, so there’s at least a chance that Ryan could be brought in for an interview.
