Rams Considering Cutting OT Jason Smith

Pro Football Talks Mike Florio reports that the Rams will ask OT Jason Smith to take a pay cut from the $10 million that he scheduled to make for the 2012 season.

Florio notes that only $1 million of the salary is guaranteed which makes him a reasonable roster cut if he refuses to renegotiate his current deal.

Smith was taken with the #2 overall pick during the 2009 draft but has missed about thirty-percent of the games played since then. On top of that his performance hasn’t lived up to the billing and considering the money that he’s due, it would make plenty of sense for the Rams to move on.

St Louis is in a great position to upgrade at the position in this years draft as USC OT Matt Kalil will almost certainly be available at #2 for them. We have St Louis draft Kalil in our most recent Mock Draft.
