Rams Could Have A New Deal In Place With RB Steven Jackson Soon

Howard Balzer mentioned in an interview with the Tacoma News Tribune that the “feeling is” that RB Steven Jackson will have a new contract in place with the Rams before February 8th, which is the deadline for him to void his current contract.

Balzer adds that Jackson has his eyes set on becoming a top 10 all-time rusher and finishing out his career with the Rams.

Jackson, 29, has a $7 million player option for 2013, which he is expected to be voided if a deal isn’t reached by that point. If Jackson hits the open market, he will definitely find interest from teams that are looking for an upgrade at the position.

The Packers have been suggested as a potential suitor for months now given that GM Ted Thompson reportedly has an affinity for Jackson and the fact that their running game has been very suspect in recent years, but Green Bay has been reluctant to pay free agents in the past, so it really seems as though the Rams have the best shot at signing him.

We have Jackson listed as the No. 15 best available player in our Top 50 Free Agents list, assuming that he does indeed void his contract.
