Rams, Eagles, Bears, Cowboys & 49ers Expected To Have Interest In WR Pierre Garcon

According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Redskins like free agent WR Pierre Garcon and he has said he would like to remain with the team. However, Jones says that as many as five teams are expected to have interest in Garcon this offseason including the Rams, Eagles, Bears, Cowboys and 49ers.

In regards to fellow free agent WR DeSean Jackson, Jones mentions that it doesn’t sound as if the Redskins plan to re-sign him this offseason, considering that he’s “too inconsistent.”

In order to retain Garcon, it’s likely the Redskins will need to make him a strong offer or he could be playing elsewhere at the start of the 2017 season.

Brian McNally of 106.7 The Fan reported earlier in the week that the Redskins have yet to open contract talks with either Garcon or Jackson up to this point.

While there’s there’s still time for Washington to start serious negotiations with either player, McNally says that both Jackson and Garcon appear to be prepared to test the open market next month.

Three sources tell McNally that there looks to be an internal disagreement among the top decision makers in Washington’s front office about which of their free agent receivers to prioritize. Jackson reportedly has fans within the team and some believe his unique skillset couldn’t be easily replaced this offseason. Others view Garcon as a possession receiver with a limited ceiling, according to McNally.

Garcon, 30, is a former sixth-round pick of the Redskins back in 2008. He spent four years in Indianapolis before signing a  five-year, $42.5 million contract that included $20.5 million guaranteed with the Redskins back in 2012.

Garcon is now in position to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent and will be among the best available receivers.

In 2016, Garcon appeared in all 16 games for the Redskins and caught 79 passes for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 8 receiver out of 115 qualifying players.

We have both of them featured in our Top 100 – 2017 Free Agents list.
