Rams OL Roger Saffold Generating “Better-Than-Expected Interest”

Update:

Ian Rapoport reports that Rams OL Rodger Saffold is generating “better-than-expected interest” interest from NFL teams.

  • Rapoport adds that Saffold is being looked at as more of a guard, rather than as a tackle.

Saffold, 25, appeared in 12 games for the Rams this season and rated as the No. 18 guard in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.

We have Saffold listed as the No. 35 player in our Top 50 Free Agents list.

Jim Thomas confirms that the Rams will meet with free agent OL Rodger Saffold’s agent at the Combine on Saturday to discuss new contract.

Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net reports that the St. Louis Rams are expected to discuss a new contract with impending free agent OL Rodger Saffold at the Combine this weekend.

Pauline adds that the two sides had previously broached the topic of a contract extension last month.

Rams GM Les Snead told reporters last month that they would like to re-sign Saffold. Although, he may prefer to test the market and look for an opportunity to play left tackle again after the Rams moved him to guard following the addition of Jake Long last year.

  1. Signing Saffold would be a huge plus. It would allow us to focus on other weaknesses in the draft. If Saffold is back, we could wait to the second round and bring in a talented guard, who should be available. With the first round picks we would then be in a better position to take the quality picks…Clowney,Watdkins,Clinton-Dix Portis…

    • Seeing how the players performed after Saffold strengthened the line at Guard, I’d love to see signing him plus a key draft pick. We have the chance to build a top O-line for years right now. That would improve Bradford and the passing game.
