Rams Expected To Draft A Quarterback In The Mid-Rounds

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams are “strongly considering” a quarterback this year.

Thomas mentions that the Rams are expected to target a passer in the “mid-rounds” of the draft with the intention of getting him ready to “compete for a starting job in a year or two.”

St. Louis has met with a number of quarterback prospects including: Derek Carr (Fresno State), Tom Savage (Pittsburgh), Connor Shaw (South Carolina) and Tajh Boyd (Clemson).

The Rams reportedly attended the Pro Days of Georgia QB Aaron Murray and SMU’s Garrett Gilbert.

Peter King mentions Sunday night that he also expects the Rams to come away from the draft with a quarterback and believes they could take someone as early as the second or third round.

Starting quarterback Sam Bradford is coming off of a serious knee injury, and although the team upgraded their backup situation with the signing of Shaun Hill, they could probably use a young prospect to develop in the coming years.

Bradford has two years remaining on his contract, so taking a quarterback now could be a contingency plan that would give them some options in the event that Bradford continues to struggle or gets hurt again.
