Jeff Howe of the Athletic reports that the Rams have already expressed interest in possibly signing WR Brandin Cooks to an extension following the trade with the Patriots.

According to Howe, there’s no guarantee it happens and it could depend on how much Cooks wants to test free agency next offseason.

Cooks, 24, is a former first-round pick of the Saints back in 2014. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $8.4 million contract and set to make a base salary of $781,599 for the 2017 season when he was traded to the Patriots last year.

New England later picked up his fifth-year option for the 2018 season, which will cost the Rams $8,459,000 million. The Patriots traded Cooks to the Rams for first- and sixth-round picks.

Cooks is in line to be an unrestricted free agent next year.

In 2017, Cooks appeared in all 16 games for the Patriots and caught 65 passes for 1,082 yards receiving and seven touchdowns. Cooks also rushed for 40 yards on nine carries. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 receiver out of 116 qualifying players.

We’ll have more regarding Cooks as the news is available.
