Rams GM Les Snead: No Timetable To Sign DT Aaron Donald To Long-Term Deal

Rams GM Les Snead mentioned that while they want to get a long-term deal in place for DT Aaron Donald, he wouldn’t commit to a timeline to get a deal in place.

“I don’t know necessarily in terms of last or first,” Snead said Wednesday, via ESPN.com. “What I do know is he’s an important domino.

“To be honest with you, I would be probably lying if I put a timeline on this one,” Snead added. “We want him to be a Ram a long time. So when we ink that deal — or not — I can’t put a timeline on it. But it is a major priority, as it always will be until we get it done.”

According to Snead, Donald is one of a few deals that they’ll likely be working on at the same time.

“We’ll have them all going on simultaneously and try to knock them out,” said Snead. “We’ve got a little bit of a general plan as it is now. We’ll come back and fine-tune it.”

Donald indicated that another holdout could be a possibility.

“Nah,” Donald said of whether he’ll hold out. “I ain’t going to do it again. Well, I don’t know. I hope I don’t have to do it again.”

Donald, 26, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $10.136 million and set to make a base salary of $1,802,250 for the 2017 season when the Rams picked up his fifth-year team option for the 2018 season.

This will run the Rams around $6.892 million for the 2018 season, but is guaranteed only for injury and won’t prevent them from working on a long-term extension over the next year.

In 2017, Donald appeared in 14 games for the Rams and recorded 41 tackles, 11 sacks, a fumble recovery, five forced fumbles and a pass defense.
