Rams Have “No Intention” Of Extending Sam Bradford’s Contract?

Update:

Jason La Canfora has updated his story and replaced the part where he previously mentioned that Rams have “absolutely no intention” of re-signing QB Sam Bradford with; “a source says the Rams are open to an extension for QB Sam Bradford.”

This coincides with what the team said earlier this season.

—————-

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the St. Louis Rams have “absolutely no intention” of extending QB Sam Bradford‘s contract at this point in time.

La Canfora adds that the team still needs to decide if they want to keep him around seeing as they have already paid him all of the guaranteed money included in his rookie contract.

Bradford, 26, still has two years remaining on his contract with base salaries of $14.015 million and $12.985 million coming way during this time. As things stand right now, he has a $17.6 million cap figure next season, which means he represents an easy source of cap space if the Rams were to either release him or offer him an extension.

It’s worth noting that the Rams publicly mentioned months ago that they were interested in extending Bradford’s contract. However, their position may have changed after he suffered a season-ending torn ACL in Week 7 of last season.

The Rams basically have no cap room to work with right now, so it seems almost certain that roster moves will be coming at some point in the near future.

    • Crap, I forgot to respond to this sooner. Sorry about that.

I should mention that La Canfora changed his story without saying anything and now says that the Rams ARE willing to re-sign Bradford.

Whenever a team releases a player, the odds of him returning are so slim that I would never assume that he’ll be back at any point.

I really think the Rams will re-sign him to a multi-year extension to free up cap space in the process and hope he can finally put together a breakout season. I wish I could offer you a reasonable projection, but QB contracts are skyrocketing, so it will be interesting to see how the Rams value you a guy who has yet to do much in the NFL.

Thanks for the question and I promise, I’ll do a better job of responding next time.
