Report: Rams Owner Stan Kroenke’s Land Purchase Could Be For A New MLS Team

According to the St. Louis Business Journal, Rams owner Stan Kroenke is planning to use his recently purchased 60-acre plot of land in Los Angeles for a new MLS team.

The report, citing English news sources, adds that Kroenke is expected to purchase a license for a new MLS team which is expected to be called the  “LA Gunners.

Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times first reported that Kroenke had purchased the land and suggested that this could end up being to build an L.A. stadium that would allow him to move the Rams at some point.

At worst, this purchase has increased his leverage in contract talks with the city of St. Louis to get the $700 million in stadium upgrades he was seeking.

While it is entirely possible that Kroenke will establish a new soccer team in the coming years, it remains to be seen whether or not this could end up being the final resting spot for the Rams franchise.

We’ll continue to provide updates as the news is available.
