Rams Pick Up Fifth-Year Options On RB Todd Gurley & CB Marcus Peters

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Rams have exercised their fifth-year options on RB Todd Gurley and CB Marcus Peters Tuesday.

The fifth-year option for Gurley will cost the Rams $9,630,000 while Peters’ option is worth $9,069,000 for the 2019 season. It’s worth mentioning that fifth-year options are only guaranteed for injury and won’t prevent the Rams from working on a long-term extensions with both players over the next year or so.

Gurley, 23, is a former first-round pick of the Rams back in 2015. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $13.823 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $2.31 million for the 2018 season.

In 2017, Gurley appeared in 15 games for the Rams and rushed for 1,305 yards on 279 carries (4.7 YPC) to go along with 64 receptions for 788 yards receiving and 19 total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 1 running back out of 57 qualifying players.

Peters, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Chiefs back in 2015. He is entering the final year of his four-year, $9.584 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1,741,932 for the 2018 season.

The Rams acquired him from the Chiefs in exchange for a a 2018 fourth-round pick and a 2019 2nd-round pick.

In 2017, Peters appeared in 14 games for the Chiefs and recorded 46 tackles, five interceptions, four forced fumbles, two recoveries with one being returned for a touchdown and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 17 cornerback out of 120 qualifying players.
