Rams QB Nick Foles Skipping OTAs, Expected Back For Mandatory Workouts

Vincent Bonsignore is getting the sense that the Rams do not have any issues with how QB Nick Foles has handled the situation or skipping OTA workouts.

In fact, a source tells Bonsignore that Foles is expected to be back for Rams’ mandatory workouts that are  scheduled for June 14-16.

Jim Trotter of ESPN reports that Rams QB Nick Foles is skipping Rams OTAs and has not participated in a team-run training session since they drafted Jared Goff No. 1 overall.

Previous reports have said that Foles could end up being a trade candidate, and while Rams GM Les Snead said that “at least five” teams have inquired about a potential deal for him, there hasn’t been any reported interest over the past month.

As of now, Foles counts $8.75 million against the Rams’ 2016 salary cap, which breaks down to a $6 million roster bonus that is guaranteed, $1 million of signing bonus proration and $1.75 million in base salary.

Releasing Foles would result in a cap hit of $8 million, and designating him as a post-June 1 release would only reduce this figure to $7 million.

If the Rams were able to find a trade partner, they would pick up $6.75 million in cap space and just $2 million in dead money, but you can bet teams wouldn’t be willing to include more than a late-round pick for him.

Foles, 26, came over in a trade from the Eagles that sent Sam Bradford to Philadelphia. He had one year remaining on his rookie contract when the Rams signed him to a two-year, $24 million extension back in August of last year.

In 2015, Foles completed 56.4 percent of his passes for 2,052 yards, seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 quarterback out of 37 qualifying players.
