Rams Place QB Sam Bradford On Season-Ending Injured Reserve

Jim Thomas reports that the Rams have officially placed QB Sam Bradford on season-ending injured reserve for the second time in as many years.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that Rams QB Sam Bradford does in fact have a torn ACL and will miss the entire 2014 season.

The Rams expressed some initial optimism that Bradford “dodged a bullet” regarding his ACL, but that optimism quickly turned to serious concern this morning.

Speculation has already started circulating that the Rams could look to make a move and add a veteran backup to their roster such as Mark Sanchez.

St. Louis did sign veteran backup Shaun Hill to a contract earlier this offseason, so it seems almost certain that he will at least open the season as the team’s starting quarterback.

Bradford, 26, suffered a torn ACL in his left knee last year and was limited to appearing in just seven games. He still has two years remaining on his rookie contract, but this was largely considered to be a make-or-break season for the former No. 1 overall pick.

Bradford will count $16.85 million against the cap and will make $12.985 million for the 2015 season.

It will be interesting to see if St. Louis elects to part ways with Bradford next year and look for a new long-term option.
